Multicultural Spring
In
spring, 2007, the UC Irvine Drama Department initiated
its annual Multicultural Spring, a program which truly
reflects UCI’s geographic, demographic and cultural
uniqueness. Located
in the intensely multicultural bi-county amalgamation of
Los Angeles – Orange County, on the Pacific Rim and
just ninety minutes from the country’s southern border,
UC Irvine is ideally positioned for the creation and study
of international and multicultural performance.
From
April through early June, therefore, UC Irvine’s
Drama Department invites artists and scholars from varied
cultural and national backgrounds to conduct workshops
and master classes, to lecture, and to participate in wide-ranging
seminars and conferences. Spring is the season to
celebrate the blooming of multiculturalism!
Here are some highlights for Spring, 2007:
Master Class with Madame Hua Wenyi (Chinese Kun Opera
diva)
Master Class with Mr. Jimmie Su (Beijing Opera painted
face actor)
Master Class with Shaly Vijayan (Bharata Natyam dancer
and master teacher from India)
Lecture by the Contemporary Legend (intercultural performance
group from Taiwan)
Lecture by Denise Uyehara (performance artist and writer)
