Program Auditions

Once we have received a completed application form and $60 application fee, the Drama Office will contact you to schedule an audition location and time.

Remember that your two contrasting audition monologues should total no more than three minutes, and that one should be classical, preferably in verse. If you wish to sing a short song (no more than 30 seconds in length), you must provide your own pre-recorded accompaniment as well as a cassette player. Please do not sing a-cappella. Be aware that you are auditioning in a group setting. This means that you will present your audition monologues with other applicants in the room. You will also engage in a variety of acting exercises, as led by the UCI faculty recruitment team. We will hold a thorough question and answer session at the end of each audition day in Irvine, New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, and San Francisco. This is a perfect opportunity to ask specific questions you may have regarding the Acting program or any aspect of our training programs at UCI. There is a possibility of a call back session immediately following.

If it is possible within your schedule and budget, we strongly urge you to consider auditioning at UCI. This will allow you to tour the School of the Arts and meet with faculty and current MFA acting students. We will hold a thorough question and answer session at the end of each audition day in Irvine, New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, and San Francisco. This is a perfect opportunity to ask specific questions you may have regarding the Acting program or any aspect of our training programs at UCI.

UCI Acting faculty will be present at the New York, Chicago, and Las Vegas U/RTA auditions. Also, videotape auditions are accepted - but not encouraged - and should be submitted only by applicants for whom travel to one of the regular audition sites is completely impossible. Video cassette submissions must be made using half inch VHS. Return is not guaranteed. The content of the video audition should be exactly the same as for an audition in person; please do not submit unedited show tapes.

The application deadline for the MFA Acting program is two weeks prior to the city/date that you desire for your audition.

Acting auditions for direct applicants will be held at the following cities/dates in 2008:

  • New York: Sunday, January 27 & Thursday, January 31, 2008
  • Chicago: Saturday, February 2 & Sunday, February 3, 2008
  • Las Vegas: Thursday, February 7, 2008
  • San Francisco: Saturday, February 9, 2008
  • UC Irvine: Saturday, February 16, 2008

Audition location will be provided at time of scheduling your audition time.

Final call backs will be held at UC Irvine on Sunday, February 17, 2008. Should you be called back, and if you are seriously interested in attending the graduate acting program at UC Irvine, please hold this date.

Acting representatives will attend the U/RTA final auditions and may invite candidates to apply at that time; however, the only certain way to receive a UCI audition invitation is to file an application before the above deadline.
