With a richly comprehensive curriculum, the UC Irvine Department of Drama provides students with real-time acting practice in productions, as well as opportunities to learn hands-on technical skills. Since its founding in 1965 as one of the original departments in the University, UCI Drama has supported students’ artistic development through courses on directing, design, musical theatre, playwriting, stage management, dramatic theory, and theatre production.

At any given time, UCI Drama alumni may be seen on Broadway, in national tours, and on film and television screens. Our alumni are also represented in technical positions throughout the country in a variety of sought-after positions as stage managers, sound designers, scenic designers and production managers.

UCI’s Drama department offers students the opportunity to train artistically and technically to become the performers and storytellers of the future. UCI students study drama to investigate music, movement, visual and aural aesthetics, and exploring the latest technological trends.

Make a Difference

The UCI Theatre Guild has been in existence for over fifty years, and has never played a more crucial role to our department’s continued success than it does right now. If you are a theatre fan who would like to support the innovative academic research, artistic explorations, and performance experiences at UCI’s drama department, we invite you to become a Theatre Guild member.

Contributions to the Theatre Guild help us continue to offer pathways to professional success, by supporting an array of immersive learning experiences on stage and behind-the-scenes. Join us and take an active role in cultivating the next generation of actors, directors, designers, and stage managers!

Gifts to the Theatre Guild help the Drama department sustain a budget and continue our mission to:

  • Support talented drama students by offering opportunities to be in high-caliber productions.
  • Create experiences for students to learn from professional costume designers, musicians, craft labor experts, hair and make-up artists, guest artists, and master class lecturers.
  • Develop future theatre audiences by offering exciting members-only events.
