Biography
A
freelance designer for almost thirty years, Shigeru
has created costume designs for over one hundred
and fifty productions in regional theaters and
ballet companies across the nation. Recent work
includes The Clean House at the Lincoln Center
Theatre, Romeo and Juliet at the Oregon Shakespeare
Festival, My Wandering Boy and A Little
Night Music at South Coast Repertory, the Broadway/National
Tour production and A&E Broadcasting/Home Video
of Cathy Rigby's Peter Pan, nominated for a Primetime
Emmy Award for Outstanding Costumes, The Cherry
Orchard at the Yale Repertory Theatre, and Mystic
Rhythms at Tokyo Disney Sea in Japan. Additional
design work has been seen at South Coast Repertory,
the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, San Jose Repertory,
Cornerstone Theater Company, A.C.T. in San Francisco,
Shakespeare Santa Cruz, La Mirada Theatre for the
Performing Arts, A Contemporary Theater in Seattle,
the Old Globe in San Diego, Nashville Ballet, Ballet
Pacifica, and the Singapore Festival of the Arts.
Shigeru has served as a consulting designer for
Universal Studios, DreamWorks Animation, Disneyland,
and Spectra F/X. He is the recipient of numerous
awards, including six Los Angeles Drama Critics
Circle Awards.
