Shigeru Yaji

Biography

A freelance costume designer for over thirty years, Shigeru has created costume designs for over one hundred and fifty productions in regional theatres, ballet, and entertainment fields across the nation and overseas.  His recent work includes projects at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (eleven seasons), the Getty Villa, the Lincoln Center Theatre, Yale Repertory Theatre, South Coast Repertory (more than fifty-five productions), and at the San Jose Repertory Theatre.  Shigeru has recently designed scenery for Nashville Ballet, Cornerstone Theatrer Company, and East West Players.  He has also worked as a consulting costume designer for such companies as Tokyo DisneySea in Japan, Disneyland, DreamWorks Animation, Universal Studios Tour, and Spectra F/X.   Mr. Yaji is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including seven Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards and a Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award.  He also received an Emmy Award nomination for the A&E Broadcasting of the Broadway/national tour production of Peter Pan starring Cathy Rigby.
