Froehlich recognized for costume design on Ensemble Theatre Company’s Dracula: A Comedy of Errors

UC Irvine Claire Trevor School of the Arts Associate Professor of Costume Design Marcy Froehlich has been nominated for a 2025 Santa Barbara BroadwayWorld Award for her work on Dracula: A Comedy of Errors, presented last fall by Ensemble Theatre Company in Santa Barbara.

BroadwayWorld Awards are annual theatre honors determined by online audience voting, spotlighting excellence across regional and international productions. Froehlich’s nomination recognizes her costume design contributions to the production, which also saw the show’s director and two performers nominated alongside her.

“There was so much laughter when we were creating this show, and the audience seemed to enjoy the high camp and comic timing of this spoof of Dracula,” said Froehlich. “There were lots of crazy quick changes that had to be considered, but it was still fun to design some Victorian Gothic-flavored costumes.”

A longtime designer for theatre, opera, film and television, Froehlich has received seven Ovation Award nominations for work across Los Angeles theatre, including Gulf View Drive, which won Best Play (Large Theater) in 2017. She has designed for venues such as The Wallis, Opera Français, Long Beach Opera, Sacramento Music Circus and Central City Opera. Froehlich serves in UC Irvine’s Department of Drama and has previously held teaching appointments at UCLA, Santa Barbara City College and SUNY New Paltz. She is co-author of Shopping LA: The Insiders’ Sourcebook for Film & Fashion and has contributed extensively to the Costume Designers Guild magazine.
